Playboy named her its December 2002 Playmate at 21. Her appearance came in the 2000s, as Playboy's print tradition began to share space with an expanding online presence.

Lani Todd’s working life was already divided between creativity and practicality before Playboy entered the picture. Raised in rural Pennsylvania and homeschooled, she later spent several years in Florida, where she worked both as a model and a cosmetologist.
