Brittany Brousseau grew up far from the usual fashion circuit, raised on a rural Kansas farm where mornings could begin with chores and baling hay. Although she had been born in California, the Midwest shaped much of her early life and even inspired the name of her Yorkshire Terrier, Toto. Modeling was not her original plan; she was preparing for a career in law enforcement and had enrolled in the police academy.
Her ambitions were serious enough that she also considered military service and came close to enlisting in the Marines. That direction changed after she was discovered as a model at 18. Brousseau saw modeling and acting as a chance to travel and experience a world beyond rural Kansas, and she began taking on print work as her professional focus shifted away from policing.
Playboy entered the picture through photographer Josh Ryan, who invited Brousseau to test for the magazine. She was approved, but the opportunity initially unsettled her and she backed away. At that point she had never posed nude and was not yet comfortable committing to the shoot, despite already having received Playboy’s approval.
A year later, Brousseau returned with considerably more confidence. The time away allowed her to reconsider the opportunity on her own terms rather than rushing into it, and she ultimately accepted the Playmate assignment.
