Born Jessica Ashley Deluge on December 8, 1989, in Detroit, Michigan, she has also been credited as Claire McKeena, Erika Monkey, Jessica Deluge, Jessica Kristen, and Jessie Dreamchaser. Playboy named her its June 2014 Playmate at 24. Her appearance came during Playboy's contemporary era of international and digital publishing.

Jessica Ashley came to Playboy with interests that extended well beyond modeling. An English major with plans for graduate school, she spoke enthusiastically about literature and counted Hermann Hesse and Henry Miller among her favorite authors. Miller especially appealed to her because of the provocative reputation his writing carried in its own era, a connection Ashley found fitting when considering Playboy’s own history of challenging convention.
Her modeling opportunity with the magazine began through Facebook, where Playboy discovered her and invited her to California for a test.
