Olivia Paige grew up on forty acres in Holley, a small community in western New York, where four-wheelers and muddy clothes were part of everyday life. That rural upbringing contrasted sharply with the beauty-oriented interests she developed later, particularly hair and makeup. Her graduating class numbered fewer than a hundred students, making her eventual appearance in Playboy an especially dramatic departure from the environment in which she had been raised.
Playboy discovered Paige at a casting in Las Vegas and subsequently selected her to compete on Playboy Shootout. The television competition placed aspiring models through a series of challenges designed around Playboy photography and presentation. Paige finished second behind Shanna Marie McLaughlin, but the result was close enough that Playboy decided to offer Paige a centerfold as well.
Arny Freytag photographed Paige’s centerfold, continuing the veteran Playboy photographer’s long association with the magazine’s Playmates. For Paige, the selection transformed what had begun as a casting opportunity into national exposure and a place within the Playboy community. She spent time at the Mansion and developed friendships there, although she described herself as considerably more comfortable with quiet domestic life than with constant partying.
That preference became particularly relevant when Paige moved to Louisiana with her husband and announced that they were expecting a child. She stepped away from much of the activity surrounding Playboy and returned to a lifestyle closer to the country setting of her childhood, spending her time at home with her husband and their dog. Even Hugh Hefner joked that her pregnancy had brought an end to her regular domino games at the Mansion.
Charitable work remained important during this quieter period. Paige devoted attention to raising money and awareness for autism and identified Jenny McCarthy, another Playboy alumna known for public advocacy on the subject, as an inspiration. Her Playboy experience therefore encompassed reality television, Freytag’s centerfold photography and Mansion life before giving way to marriage, motherhood and nonprofit activity in Louisiana.
