Sandra Hubby grew up on an Ohio farm, where practical responsibilities arrived well before any involvement with professional modeling. She learned to operate a tractor at 15 and spent much of her early life around horses and farm work. Jeans were more familiar than glamorous clothes, and she even considered joining the Marines, although an interest in modeling remained in the background.
Pageantry provided Hubby with an opportunity to test that interest. She represented Columbus in the Miss Hawaiian Tropic competition, gaining experience in promotional modeling without abandoning the straightforward outlook she associated with her rural upbringing.
