Christine Smith’s Playboy career began almost by accident. She accompanied a friend to a casting rather than attending for herself, but veteran photographer Stephen Wayda noticed her and asked to take several photographs. Within a week, Smith was testing for Playmate, and Hugh Hefner ultimately selected her for the December 2005 centerfold.
She already had some modeling experience before Playboy, with work that included calendars, fitness publications and motorcycle-oriented magazines. Playboy quickly became the most visible part of that career. Smith went on to appear in more than a dozen Special Editions as well as several Playboy video productions, while also developing steady work as a model and hostess.
Animal welfare remained a particularly important part of her life. Smith described herself as deeply committed to rescue work and said she had helped rehabilitate more than a hundred sick, injured or unwanted animals. She also spoke about veterinary medicine as a long-term ambition, making that interest far more than a casual enthusiasm for pets.
