Courtney Rachel Culkin entered Playboy through the magazine’s 50th Anniversary Playmate Hunt, the same nationwide search that introduced several future centerfolds. She first appeared in Playboy’s December 2003 anniversary pictorial, and Hugh Hefner later selected her for a full Playmate feature. Arny Freytag photographed her centerfold, establishing Culkin within the magazine after an audition that had begun largely as an experiment encouraged by people close to her.
Her childhood on Long Island had been shaped by loss and family support. Culkin’s mother died when she was ten, after which she was raised by her aunt and grandmother in Shirley, New York.
