LeRoy grew up in Colorado and spent much of her childhood skiing. She trained at Snowbird in Utah and later competed with a ski team in Steamboat Springs. Her younger brother, Andy LeRoy, subsequently became a member of the United States Ski Team and competed in alpine skiing at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano.
At the age of 16, Jennifer left Steamboat Springs for New York City after signing with a modeling agency. She soon traveled to Paris, where she worked for approximately three months. Her later modeling assignments took her to Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Taipei.
LeRoy worked extensively in runway and print modeling, including advertisements, catalogs, and magazine covers. While traveling internationally, she continued her education through correspondence courses and planned to pursue further studies.
