Sandra Settani balanced modeling with a considerably more conventional student life. She spent two years studying psychology at Southern Illinois University and supported herself by working as a secretary while beginning to explore photographic work. College remained unfinished, but Settani still imagined returning to her studies one day—possibly in Europe, where education could double as the beginning of a much larger adventure.
Travel occupied a prominent place in those plans. Settani dreamed of seeing places far removed from the Midwest, with Tibet, Morocco and Russia among the destinations that caught her imagination.
