Playboy named her its May 2018 Playmate at 22. Her appearance came during Playboy's contemporary era of international and digital publishing.

Shauna Sexton entered veterinary medicine at 16, years before modeling became a serious possibility. Working with animals quickly developed into a demanding full-time profession, and after assisting with her first surgery she discovered that emergency clinical work suited her temperament. By the time she was living in Los Angeles, she was working as a veterinary technician in an emergency clinic and spoke enthusiastically about surgery and the pace of the job.
That career remained her priority even as opportunities in front of the camera increased. Shauna Sexton resisted describing herself primarily as a model, calling modeling her “plan B” and saying she would be happy if it developed further. She also expressed respect for people who treated modeling as a profession and put sustained effort into building their careers.
Her ability to handle pressure was something Sexton associated directly with veterinary work. Emergency medicine required fast decisions and comfort with unpredictable situations, while surgical procedures became the part of the field she particularly enjoyed. Her own routine incorporated Olympic-lifting movements, although she said she modified exercises to suit her needs.
The discipline of early workouts did not translate into a particularly restrictive attitude toward food. Sexton joked that she could visit In-N-Out without feeling guilty and described herself as eating “like a linebacker.” More seriously, she framed her plans around personal development rather than a fixed destination, saying that continuing to grow as a person mattered more than predicting exactly where either modeling or veterinary work would take her.
