Laura Croft spent years building experience in modeling and promotions before Playboy became part of her career. After graduating from Edward H. White High School, she studied communications at Flagler College with a minor in art history. She also worked extensively for Hooters, appearing in calendars and advertising, representing the brand at promotional events and competing in the 2004 Miss Hooters International pageant.
Beauty contests gave Croft another route into entertainment. She won the Miss Hawaiian Tropic competition in Orlando and advanced through the broader contest circuit, raising her profile beyond Florida. Reality television followed with Outback Jack, although Croft later joked that she deliberately got herself eliminated early because she was not interested in the bachelor.
