Cara Wakelin is an American actress, glamour and nude model. Born Cara Hain Wakelin on February 8, 1977, in Melbourne, Florida, she has also been credited as Cara Driscoll and Cara Hain Driscoll. Playboy named her its November 1999 Playmate at 22. Her appearance came during Playboy's 1990s print era, a period increasingly shaped by entertainment and celebrity culture.
Wakelin has enhanced breasts, hazel eyes and blond hair. Her measurements are 34-24-35.
Cara Wakelin grew up in circumstances far removed from the glamour world she later entered. Born in Melbourne and raised in Toronto by her mother, she and her surviving brother Bain experienced an unsettled childhood in which the family moved repeatedly and, for a period, lived out of a van. Wakelin attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts, studying dance and visual arts, before continuing to McMaster University, where she studied philosophy and sociology.
Playboy entered her life almost by accident during her final semester at university. Wakelin read about the magazine’s search for a Millennium Playmate, and her mother strongly encouraged her to audition. In 1998 she attended a Toronto casting with her mother beside her, then traveled to Chicago for a test shoot. Wakelin later admitted that she had never been particularly confident about her appearance and almost backed out, making the eventual Playboy offer especially unexpected.
Her Playboy association extended well beyond her centerfold. Hugh Hefner selected her for the cover of the Canadian edition of Playboy, where she appeared wearing a hockey jersey; the issue reportedly sold out across Canada within two weeks. Wakelin later appeared in numerous Playboy videos and newsstand features, joined Playboy’s 50th Anniversary Tour and was featured on the cover of the magazine’s first swimsuit calendar in 2005.
Modeling also brought commercial and acting work outside Playboy. Wakelin served as an international spokesmodel for Miller Beer in 2001 and worked on a Budweiser campaign the following year, while her advertising credits included Sears, Ford and Coca-Cola. Her screen appearances included Relic Hunter, Entourage and The Howard Stern Show, along with supporting roles in Death to Smoochy and Smoked.
Wakelin’s career developed from a Toronto arts education and university studies into Playboy, advertising, television and film, while travel remained one of her strongest personal interests. She often described herself as naturally introverted and somewhat sheltered before modeling, making the international and public nature of her later work a considerable change. Even after establishing herself in Los Angeles, she maintained strong ties to Canada, dividing her time between Los Angeles and Toronto.
