Donna Lynn’s route into Hollywood began behind a table rather than in front of a camera. She was working as a cocktail waitress at The Cloister, a fashionable supper club on the Sunset Strip, when Mickey Rooney noticed her and offered her a part in his forthcoming film. In a city full of aspiring actresses supporting themselves between auditions, Lynn’s discovery was almost too perfectly Hollywood: one evening at work, and suddenly the movie business was calling.
That opportunity became a supporting role as Wednesday in The Private Lives of Adam and Eve, the 1960 comedy co-directed by Rooney and Albert Zugsmith. The production placed Lynn alongside a colorful ensemble that included Mamie Van Doren, Fay Spain, Mel Tormé, Tuesday Weld and Paul Anka. Her character belonged to the film’s deliberately playful Garden of Eden fantasy, making the assignment a fitting extension of the glamour image that had first attracted attention on the Strip.
Playboy discovered Lynn at roughly the same moment, and Frank Bez photographed her centerfold. The session caught her during that brief crossover from nightclub work into modeling and film, when the possibility of a larger Hollywood career still seemed entirely open.
That screen career ultimately remained short, and Lynn largely disappeared from the entertainment spotlight afterward. What survives is a distinctly late-1950s Hollywood story: a Sunset Strip waitress noticed by Mickey Rooney, photographed by Playboy and handed a film role almost at once.
