Nancy Crawford

Playboy Playmate of The Month for April 1959

Nancy Crawford Bio

Nancy Crawford is an American actress, glamour and nude model. She was born on April 16, 1941, in Valhalla, New York. Playboy named her its April 1959 Playmate. Her appearance dates from the magazine's formative 1950s, when the Playmate format was still taking shape.

Crawford has natural breasts, brown eyes and brown hair. Her measurements are 36-24-36.

Nancy Crawford entered Playboy with experience already gained in commercial and fashion modeling. Agency work and earlier photographic assignments had taught her the small disciplines that matter in front of a still camera—controlled posture, economy of gesture and the ability to hold a pose without making it look labored. That background gave her pictorial a noticeably composed quality rather than the feel of a first experiment.

Barbara and Justin Kerr photographed the centerfold, shaping the session around clean composition and a restrained late-1950s glamour style. Their photographs relied more on poise and careful framing than elaborate concepts, placing Crawford comfortably within Playboy’s increasingly polished visual language as the magazine approached the 1960s.

Crawford later added a handful of screen credits. She appeared on the television western Tales of Wells Fargo and took roles in the films The Thrill Killers and The Witchmaker. Acting never developed into a long Hollywood career, however, and her public work remained relatively brief compared with models who used Playboy as the beginning of years in entertainment.

She also continued modeling for other men’s publications before gradually withdrawing from publicity. Crawford later became a wife and mother and kept most of her subsequent life private. What remains most clearly documented is a compact career spanning commercial modeling, a carefully photographed Playboy pictorial and several screen appearances—a modest public record whose strongest surviving impression is the quiet professionalism of the photographs themselves.
