Diane Hunter Bio
Diane Hunter was an American actress, glamour and pin-up model. She was born Gale Rita Morris on July 14, 1934, in Tacoma, Washington. Playboy named her its November 1954 Playmate at 20. Her appearance dates from the magazine's formative 1950s, when the Playmate format was still taking shape.
Hunter had natural breasts, green eyes and red hair. Her measurements are 34-24-35.
Diane Hunter is one of those early Playmates whose surviving paper trail is frustratingly thin. Playboy’s own photo-library records preserve little detail about the session, and even the photographer attribution is not perfectly settled. Hugh Hefner later recalled that Hunter had been photographed by Bruno Bernard, the celebrated Hollywood portraitist whose work ranged from movie stars to commercial pin-ups.
If Hefner’s recollection is correct, Hunter’s centerfold places her within the orbit of one of the most accomplished glamour photographers of the period. Bruno Bernard, a German émigré who fled Nazi persecution, built a formidable Hollywood career and became known for carefully controlled portraits that blended studio polish with the more playful vocabulary of pin-up photography.
Beyond Playboy, Hunter appears to have continued modeling and to have taken occasional acting opportunities, although the available record is too sparse to reconstruct those assignments with confidence. Unlike some of her contemporaries, she did not leave behind a well-documented trail of film credits, interviews or later publicity. What survives most clearly is the photographic impression: poised, restrained and very much in keeping with the polished glamour Playboy was beginning to make its own in the mid-1950s.
Hunter remained largely outside the public eye in later decades. She died in 2019 at the age of 84. Her story is therefore less one of a fully documented celebrity career than of an archival fragment from Playboy’s earliest years—a model whose image endured even as many of the details surrounding the woman and the shoot gradually slipped out of the record.
