Bridget Malcolm entered fashion through the Viviens model search in 2007, when she was selected from the crowd and ultimately finished third. Harper’s Bazaar photographed her twice soon afterward, and she also worked for Jodhi Meares’ Tigerlily swimwear label. Those early assignments developed into an international runway and editorial career that placed her regularly among major fashion names.
By 2013, Malcolm was walking for designers including Kenneth Cole, Rodarte and Ralph Lauren, followed by Stella McCartney and additional Ralph Lauren shows in 2014. Editorial work was similarly international, with appearances in V and editions of Elle and Harper’s Bazaar across Australia, Europe and Latin America. In 2015, after having previously been rejected twice, she achieved a longstanding professional goal by walking the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show; she returned to the runway the following year.
Jason Lee Perry photographed Malcolm’s Playboy pictorial after those two Victoria’s Secret appearances. The assignment brought a different visual register to a portfolio built largely around runway, fashion and beauty work, favoring natural, understated photography. Her background also included considerable artistic training outside modeling: Malcolm studied ballet for 13 years and trained as a classical oboist at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Malcolm later became increasingly critical of the pressures she had experienced within fashion. In 2018, she publicly discussed being body-shamed during a shoot and apologized for previously promoting diet and exercise habits she had come to regard as unhealthy. After undergoing intensive therapy, she began speaking more openly about eating disorders, body image and the psychological consequences she associated with parts of the modeling industry.
In 2020, Malcolm and psychiatrist Dr. Allie Sharma launched the Model Mentality podcast to discuss mental-health issues affecting fashion models. That year she also completed an internship in international communications at the United Nations in New York. These projects followed her growing public focus on mental health while adding communications experience to a career that had already included international fashion editorials, major designer runways and two Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows.
