Allie Leggett’s move into modeling followed an unexpected pageant success. While studying at Somerset Community College and working as a restaurant hostess, she entered the Miss Kentucky USA competition and won the 2013 title. The result gave her an opportunity to leave the small-town environment she had long expected to outgrow, and within two months she had relocated to Los Angeles.
Leggett never felt especially suited to the conventional pageant image. She described herself as someone who had always wanted to leave Kentucky and pursue a less predictable life, particularly as many of the people she knew from school were settling into marriage and parenthood. Winning the state title provided the opening she needed, and California quickly became the base for a full-time modeling career.
Los Angeles also suited Leggett personally. She embraced the beach culture and spoke enthusiastically about the feeling of salt water, sun and time spent near the ocean. Travel became part of that unpredictability. Leggett recalled waking up to messages offering shoots in places she had never expected to visit, including an invitation to work in Iceland. Experiences like that reinforced her belief that modeling had rewarded her willingness to take chances and remain open to opportunities that could not be planned very far in advance.
Independence remained the principle Leggett returned to most often when discussing the choices that had shaped her career. Leaving Kentucky at 19, establishing herself in Los Angeles and continuing with modeling all required accepting a degree of uncertainty. Her advice was correspondingly simple: take the risk, because even when the outcome is not what you hoped for, there is still value in having been willing to try.
