Angela Dorian is an American actress, glamour and nude model. Born Victoria Cecilia Vetry on September 26, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, she has also been credited as Victoria Vetri and Victoria Rathgeb. Playboy named her its September 1967 Playmate at 22. She was later named Playmate of the Year 1968. Her appearance came during the 1960s, as Playboy grew into a major force in American magazine publishing.
Dorian has natural breasts, brown eyes and brown hair. Her measurements are 36-21-35.
Angela Dorian already had a working acting career before Playboy widened her audience. Television credits included Bonanza, Perry Mason and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., while earlier in her career director Robert Wise considered her for Maria in West Side Story before the role went to Natalie Wood. Dorian took acting seriously enough to turn down work she felt would lead nowhere, and she regarded television as useful training for the greater time and attention she hoped films would offer.
Playboy dramatically increased her visibility, culminating in her selection as Playmate of the Year for 1968 and a prize package that included $20,000 and a pink AMC AMX. She received substantial fan mail from American servicemen in Vietnam and spoke warmly about wanting to boost their morale despite describing herself as a pacifist. Yet the recognition proved complicated professionally. Dorian later said she had expected Playboy to give her greater choice in acting roles but instead found that the publicity sometimes encouraged producers to typecast her according to her appearance.
Film nevertheless brought several memorable opportunities. She appeared as Terry Gionoffrio in Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby, sharing scenes with Mia Farrow, and in 1969 signed a multi-picture deal with Warner Bros.-Seven Arts. Her most prominent starring assignment followed in When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth. Dorian resisted the production’s request that she bleach her naturally auburn hair, insisting on wearing a blonde wig instead—a small but revealing assertion of control over an industry that frequently treated actresses’ appearances as negotiable property.
Her Playboy photographs acquired an afterlife no studio publicity department could have arranged. A nude image of Dorian was secretly inserted into Apollo 12 astronaut cuff checklists alongside photographs of Leslie Bianchini, Reagan Wilson and Cynthia Myers. Another copy of her centerfold was kept by future Marine general Anthony Zinni as a memento of his service in Vietnam. Dorian later returned to Playboy for the 1984 “Playmates Forever! Part Two” pictorial.
