Sally Todd Bio
Sally Todd was an American actress, glamour and nude model. She was born Sarah Joan Todd on June 7, 1934, in Tucson, Arizona. Playboy named her its February 1957 Playmate at 22. Her appearance dates from the magazine's formative 1950s, when the Playmate format was still taking shape.
Todd had natural breasts, brown eyes and blond hair. Her measurements are 35-23-35.
Sally Todd’s path into entertainment began with a beauty contest rather than a studio audition. At 17, encouraged by her mother, she entered the Miss Tucson contest and won an all-expenses-paid trip to Hollywood. Modeling work followed almost immediately, including teenage fashions and swimwear for Cole of California, along with an uncredited appearance as a bathing-suit model in The French Line. Playboy first featured her in a non-nude pictorial in June 1956, several months before she returned for a more prominent appearance.
Television briefly took her east. In 1955, Todd moved to New York to become one of the “Carson Cuties” on The Johnny Carson Show. When the series ended the following year, she returned to Hollywood, where a 20th Century Fox talent scout helped move her toward film work. Her screen career soon developed a distinctly B-movie flavor, including roles in The Unearthly and Frankenstein’s Daughter, along with The Revolt of Mamie Stover, Al Capone and G.I. Blues.
Todd also became a familiar face on television through guest appearances on Dragnet, M Squad, Johnny Ringo, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, 77 Sunset Strip, The Untouchables and The Tab Hunter Show. The range was typical of a busy working actress in late-1950s Hollywood: crime dramas, westerns, comedies and whatever other assignment happened to be shooting that week.
Her Playboy connection had begun before the centerfold with that 1956 Las Vegas pictorial, where the magazine followed her on a date. Editors liked the result enough to revisit the idea and build a later feature around seeing even more of Todd. What started as a light lifestyle spread therefore became part of a broader career already moving between modeling, television and studio films.
Todd continued acting through the end of the decade and into the early 1960s before gradually leaving the public eye. She died in France in 2022 at the age of 88. Her surviving work captures a particularly vivid slice of mid-century entertainment: beauty contests, swimwear modeling, early television, B-movies and Playboy all overlapping within a few busy years.
