Candy Loving is an American glamour and nude model. Born Candis Loewinger on September 4, 1956, in Oswego, Kansas, she has also been credited as Candis Loving. Playboy named her its January 1979 Playmate at 22. Her appearance came during Playboy's 1970s print era, when the magazine reached the height of its mass-market influence.
Loving has natural breasts, brown eyes and brown hair. Her measurements are 37-24-34.
Candy Loving entered Playboy history through the magazine’s nationwide search for the woman who would represent its 25th anniversary. More than 3,500 women were considered during the yearlong competition, but Loving ultimately became the anniversary Playmate. At the time, she was a junior at the University of Oklahoma studying public relations while also working in a dress shop and waiting tables, a combination that placed her far from the professional modeling world Playboy was about to introduce her to.
The opportunity began with an advertisement announcing the anniversary search. Loving’s then-husband encouraged her to apply, and the decision led to a pictorial photographed by Dwight Hooker. Her selection carried considerably more weight than a standard monthly appearance because Playboy promoted her as a symbolic representative of the magazine’s first quarter-century, giving her immediate visibility well beyond the January issue.
Promotional work followed quickly. Loving traveled extensively as a Playboy representative, appearing at events that ranged from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to fashion shows, conventions and automobile events where she met readers and signed photographs. For a period, the demands of appearances and modeling became a full-time occupation, giving her an international schedule very different from the university life she had temporarily left behind.
Celebrity, however, did not become Loving’s long-term objective. By 1981 she returned to the University of Oklahoma to complete her education, earning a journalism degree and later pursuing a Master of Arts in human relations. Playboy earnings helped finance that academic work, allowing the opportunity that had interrupted college to contribute directly to the education she eventually resumed.
Loving’s anniversary appearance retained a strong place in Playboy nostalgia long after she stepped away from regular promotional work. In 2001, Playboy readers ranked her the second-sexiest Playmate of the 1970s, an indication of how enduring her 25th-anniversary pictorial had remained.
