Marlena Dee’s confidence in front of the camera was a long way from the way she remembered herself growing up. She described her younger years as shy and awkward, favoring oversized T-shirts and spending plenty of time watching Star Wars. That enthusiasm never disappeared, but the self-conscious teenager eventually became considerably more comfortable with attention and with expressing herself through clothes.
Fashion became an increasingly serious interest while Dee studied design at the Art Institute of California in San Diego.
