Christine Maddox’s modeling career quickly carried her far beyond Tracy, California, the small town she described as having little more than a high school, a theater and a bowling alley. Travel changed her sense of what the world could offer, with assignments taking her as far as Hong Kong. By then, Maddox said she had become willing to try almost anything—a considerable shift from the sheltered life she associated with home.
Leaving Tracy for Long Beach brought a different kind of adjustment. Maddox was accustomed to a place where everyone knew one another, and city habits did not come naturally. She learned that lesson after leaving her ten-speed bicycle unlocked for only a few minutes outside her apartment and returning to find it stolen. Motorcycles offered another outlet for her adventurous side, while cycling remained the substitute when she could not get out on the bike.
Her family was large and close-knit: an older brother, four older sisters, a younger sister, and eight nieces and nephews. Maddox initially worried that posing for Playboy might meet with disapproval, only to find her family more accepting than expected. Their greater difficulty, she suggested, was simply adjusting to the fact that she no longer lived in Tracy. She also hoped modeling would continue to open doors, having already discovered how dramatically travel could expand her horizons.

Asked whom she admired, she chose Walt Disney for the happiness he had brought people and recalled once fleeing through Disneyland after Porky Pig selected her to dance, with the Big Bad Wolf chasing after her through the crowd.
