Marianna Merkulova discovered her ambition to model for Playboy long before she actually appeared in the magazine. As a teenager, she watched a television program about a model taking part in a Playboy shoot and immediately decided she wanted to do the same. When she announced the plan to her family, they laughed; years later, she could happily point out that the unlikely teenage ambition had become reality.
That confidence was quite different from the personality Merkulova remembered from her school years. She described herself as quiet and modest, with relatively few friends, and believed many of her former classmates would have been surprised by the direction her career eventually took.
