Playboy featured her as Cybergirl of the Month in November 2015 at 23. She later received the Cybergirl of the Year title for 2016. The feature was part of Playboy's web-first model program.

Gia Ramey-Gay’s route to Playboy came with an unusually substantial arts education behind it. She attended the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia, completed a summer program at the North Carolina School of the Arts and studied acting for film during a summer semester at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In 2013, she graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting, adding formal training to modeling work she had begun at 16.
By the time she moved to Los Angeles, Ramey-Gay was combining several disciplines rather than concentrating on a single one. Acting remained part of her work, while Latin dance developed into professional salsa dancing. She also became a certified yoga instructor and played guitar.
