Gabriela Fernández entered Venezuela’s national pageant scene after winning Miss Zulia on May 7, 2008, in her hometown of Maracaibo. She represented the state at Miss Venezuela on September 10 that year. Her pageant background preceded the magazine work that introduced her to Playboy readers.
Named Miss April 2010 for Playboy Venezuela, Fernández appeared on the magazine’s cover in a pictorial photographed by Nacho Marin. The shoot became a defining feature of her modeling career with the publication and was later presented on Playboy Plus as part of its International collection.
Her life subsequently took a difficult turn. Arrested in 2012 in connection with the activities of Colombian drug trafficker Daniel Barrera Barrera, Fernández received a sentence of eight years and eight months in 2016 after admitting to money laundering. The conviction marked a lengthy interruption to her public career.
By 2021, Fernández was out of prison and speaking publicly about her experiences, including plans to write a book. In interviews following her release, she discussed the challenges of rebuilding her confidence and credited her family’s support with helping her recover. She also returned to pageantry, representing Aragua in Señora Real Venezuela 2021.
